We started with a question: what does it look like when moss first claims a bare and solitary rock?
Our answer was to raise a wall of rugged formation and let the moss settle into it.
What appears as dark, weathered stone is in fact autoclaved oak bark, processed by us for the broken, fractured character it shares with a real cliff.
Pin-cushion moss (Leucobryum sp.) gathers across the hard surfaces, the way pioneer moss finds a footing in the cracks of exposed rock, accompanied by hints of lichen that mark the oldest ground.
