Satisfying Living Moss Wall Terrarium, The Vertex - Cloud Forest by TerraLiving

The original, satisfying video of "the Vertex - Cloud Forest", a living moss wall with fog, taken by Raymond Yeow, the co-founder of TerraLiving in 2019.

"Inspired by the natural phenomenon in Cameron Highlands where clouds literally "sit" on moss surface, we got addicted to doing the same thing to our moss (Moss loves it very much)."

We worked with fog & mist for more than a decade, even before TerraLiving, dated back to 2009 to maintain the humidity of plants and pets. Fog-making devices are pretty standard, widely used in many areas, and come in many forms & sizes.

In 2016, we pumped high-density mist into TerraLiving's "life-sized terrarium" or moss greenhouse to maintain its humidity (video about this next round).

Instead of direct watering the live moss, we chose to "fog them up" with the necessary nutrients to minimize overwatering in a large surface area.

Eventually, we did it for our live moss terrariums, too (imagine if you have hundreds of them under experiment and observation in the lab, it is messy and hard to water them). Usually, the fog was left in the glass for the moss to absorb it and eventually dissipate.

However, we found that it was satisfying, therapeutic, relaxing, and genuinely enjoyable; thus, we decided to film the entire process and share it with everyone.

That was the original intention, and it still is, till today & beyond. Yes, we will keep creating these videos.

And no, fog doesn't form naturally (well, it does if you own an entire mossy forest). Vapour condensation on glass surfaces is common, though.

The fog is also not present in our final artwork, the ZERO Moss or preserved moss terrarium & botanical sculpture series.
